Brandywine Springs School opened its doors to students in kindergarten through fifth grade in 2000, as Brandywine Springs Elementary School.  In 2006, sixth graded was added, followed the next year by seventh grade, and finally in 2008 eighth grade was added, becoming the only traditional K-8 public school in the State of Delaware.  We serve students in grades kindergarten to fifth from a feeder pattern of the surrounding area and our sixth through eighth grade students are admitted through the choice process. 

While the current school was established in 2000, the history of Brandywine Springs School dates back to the 1820s.  The first school was located near the current school and served the students in the surrounding area in one classroom. The original building was torn down and replaced in the 1910s with a two classroom building, which still stands at the entrance to the current school on Duncan Road. It was used until the 1930s when the Marshallton School was built. New Castle County continues to own and occupy the building, currently used as a substation for the New Castle County Police.  In September 1958 the current building was opened as a Junior High to serve students in grades 7-9. It remained a school until the late 1970s and eventually sold to the Hercules corporation to be used as an office building, in 1982.  The school district bought the building back in 1999 to use as an elementary school and district office.
